Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of a beautiful clock of the finest quality. These timepieces are constructed much the same was as they have been for hundreds of years. For this reason, much of the technology involved is no longer familiar to out Twenty-First Century lives. Please read the instructions completely to avoid any problems!

  1. SAVE ALL PACKING AND PAPERWORK! Although each clock has been carefully inspected and tested before shipment, you will need everything in case of any problems.
  2. Carefully remove the clock from the box and surrounding packaging.
  3. Remove any plastic sleeves that may be in the winding holes in the dial.
  4. Remove and foam, paper or cardboard from the brass movement.
  5. Take a good sized screw (about a no. 10) and drive it into the wall an an upward angle anchored within a stud.
  6. Hang the clock using the metal hanger at the back of the clock.
  7. Wind the three winding squares with the key (they may or may not be fully wound when you first receive the clock). Turn them clockwise. Wind them fully after 7 days running. Be sure to turn the key until it goes no further. The left winder needs about 3 1/2 turns, and the center and right winder need about 4 1/2 turns. For a full week's run be sure to wind until the key comes to a complete stop.
  8. Hang the pendulum on the rod hanging behind the movement.
  9. Pull the pendulum to one side and allow it to start swinging back and forth.
  10. Listen for an even tick-tock sound. If the clock sounds lopsided, (tick TOCK) take the pendulum off and push the rod on which you hang the pendulum further toward one side or the other. Push slightly past the point of resistance, in the direction of the LONGER tick. Put the pendulum on and listen to the tick tock again. Repeat this step until you hear an even tick tock sound. This is called "putting the clock in beat" and is the responsibility of the customer.

To set the clock:

  1. Turn the longer hand (minute hand) backward (counterclockwise) until the clock has the correct time. Do not move the smaller hand, it will follow along slowly as you move the minute hand.
  2. If the chimes are not sounding correctly, give them an hour to automatically readjust themselves.

Make sure the chime shutoff lever (if any) is turned on.

To regulate the time: Some minor adjustments may be necessary. There is a nut at the bottom of the pendulum, underneath the bob (disc). Turn this nut to the right (higher) to make the clock go faster. Turn the nut to the left to slow the clock down. The clock should be accurate to within 5 minutes per week. Make the adjustment only after running the clock for a few days. Set the clock to the correct time after making an adjustment. You may move the minute hand forward or backward.

If you have any problems:

Call or e-mail the store where you purchased the clock. Many problems can be solved over the phone or by e-mail. Otherwise they can direct you to where and how to send for a repair or replacement. We have a two year guarantee on our clocks and all claims are handled through the dealer form whom you purchased the clock 9see included warranty information).

Most Common Errors when Installing a Mechanical Clock

If the clock does not chime properly, make sure all three winders are would fully. By the end of the week these will run down.

Constant running of mechanical parts causes wear, but proper maintenance will allow your timepiece to last longer. These clocks should be oiled and cleaned by a certified clock technician every 5 - 7 years.

If the clock strikes the wrong hour it means someone has moved the hour hand independently of the minute hand. Simply make the clock sound the hour and count the number of strokes of the hour strike, then move the hour hand (grasping it near the center) to the correct hour. Then use the minute (long) hand to set the clock to the correct time.

Whatever the problem, if something doesn't seem to be working properly, DO NOT USE FORCE! Re-read the instructions or e-mail or call the store where you purchased the clock.
